HUNGARY: Adjustment of fines in freight transport, since April 2026

The Hungarian Ministry of Construction and Transport informs the concerned parties that the sanctions related to the regulation governing international transit freight traffic have been amended in Hungary.
In line with their previous communication and in accordance with the applicable provisions, international transit freiht traffic may continue to operate within the territory of Hungary exclusively on the designated transit route network. The objective of the regulation remains unchanged : to protect the quality of life of the population, to reduce environmental impact, and to preserve the condition of the road network.
Please be informed tah, under the amendment is expected to enter into in April 2026, the amount of fines related to the unlawful use of the transit route network will be significantly increased. Within this framework, the current fine of HUF 100,000 will be raised to HUF 400,000 (approximatelly from EUR 250 to approximately EUS 1,000).
The purpose of this stricter measure is to ensure more effective enforcement of the rules and to guarantee that transit traffic uses the designated routes, thereby minimizing the burden on local communities.
Please note that the competent authorities will carry out intensified inspections in order to ensure compliance with the regulations.
