All border crossings between North Macedonia and Greece will be closed on 26/01/2026, for 1 week
INTERNATIONAL NEWS22 January 2026
Following information from the Embassy of Greece in Skopje:
According to today's information received from the Association of Transporters of North Macedonia (MAKAMTRANS), the decision of transporters to participate in border blockades with the Schengen countries has been confirmed, starting on the 26th of this month and for one week, protesting the new EU entry and exit system, which limits the number of transits and stays of truck drivers from third countries in the Schengen countries. The relevant decision is in line with the decisions taken by Transporters' Associations and Federations in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro.
It is noted that the blockade concerns exclusively trucks for all border crossings between North Macedonia and Greece (namely Bogorodica/Evzoni, Medzhitlija/Niki and Star Dojran/Doirani), while passenger vehicle traffic will continue as normal.
Finally, the Transporters' Association of North Macedonia states that any escalation or de-escalation of the protests will depend on the EU's response to the request of the countries in the region to suspend the implementation of the Entry-Exit System.
