Belgium: Contingency plan declared in port of Zeebrugge
INTERNATIONAL NEWS02 February 2024
Some 1,700 to 2,000 trucks are currently stuck in the wide region of the port of Zeebrugge due to farmers' blockades.
Meanwhile, the governor of West Flanders has decided to declare the provincial general emergency and intervention plan.
The parking lots in and around Zeebrugge have meanwhile reached their maximum capacity.
It is therefore decided to divert the arriving drivers towards Ostend. There, everything is currently being prepared to set up an emergency parking lot with a capacity of 1,000 trucks on the airport grounds. Catering and sanitary facilities will also be provided there for the stranded drivers. The trucks will be guided to this emergency parking lot from the highway via the signs on the information boards.
