Bulgaria: driving restrictions HGVs summer period 2026
DRIVING RESTRICTIONS11 August 2026
Summer driving restrictions for trucks in Bulgaria, which will apply until the end of August, as follows:
1. The movement of vehicles for transport of goods with a maximum permissible mass over 12 t, including trailers and semi-trailers, is prohibited on Trakia Motorway, Struma Motorway and National Road I-1 Sofia - Kulata from km 376+100 to km 443+100 on Fridays and Sundays in August 2026, as follows:
- on Friday, 14.08, 21.08 and 28.08.2026 in direction Sofia - Burgas from 16.00 to 20.00
- on Sunday, 16.08, 23.08 and 30.08.2026 in direction Burgas - Sofia from 16.00 to 20.00 h
- on Friday, 14.08, 21.08 and 28.08.2026 for the direction Sofia – Kulata Border Checkpoint from 16.00 to 20.00 h
- on Sunday, 16.08, 23.08 and 30.08.2026 for the direction Kulata Border Checkpoint – Sofia from 16.00 to 20.00 h.
2. The driving of heavy goods vehicles with a total mass of over 20 t on the roads of the republican road network, with the exception of motorways, is prohibited when air temperatures exceed 35 degrees Celsius and asphalt temperatures exceed 50 degrees Celsius during the time from 13.00 to 20.00 on the territory of the following administrative districts: Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, Razgrad, Targovishte, Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo, Silistra, Haskovo, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv and Stara Zagora.
The prohibitions under 1. and 2. do not apply to passenger transport, vehicles transporting dangerous goods (ADR), live animals, perishable food products, temperature-controlled goods and specialized carcass trucks.
