TIR is an international customs transit system for goods transported by road. It is based on 6 basic principles - 6 pillars.
Goods may be carried by means of sealed vehicles or containers, the use of which has been approved.
In case of irregularity, customs and duties are covered by an international chain of guarantee throughout the journey.
The goods are accompanied by the TIR carnet: a harmonised control document accepted by customs authorities of the countries of departure, transit and destination.
Control measures taken in the country of departure are accepted by the countries of transit and destination.
National issuing and guaranteeing associations are given access to the TIR system by the Ministry of Finance, and hauliers are given access thereto by the national customs authorities and the national federation.
An electronic control system for TIR carnets allowing traceability and risk management.
